The Buhner.com Annual Yankee Offseason Outlook, Part 2

Tom | | Thursday, November 30th, 2006

When last we left off, I was rambling about the unresolved pitching issues the Yankees had to address in the offseason, and the numerous ways they could approach it. With so few pitchers carrying over from last season to this season and the fickle nature of relief pitching and Joe Torre’s use of it in general, there’s a lot of different possibilities.

When it comes to the position players, however, there’s a little more wiggle room, since the initial structure is already in place from last season. (more…)

The Buhner.com Annual Yankee Offseason Outlook, Part 1

It’s that time again.  No, not time for the momma joke of the night (that’s I’m Chillin’, which showcased Chris Farley’s wide-ranging rhyming talent), but for my yearly overview of the Yankees roster and possible moves for the offseason.  For those of you new to this, unlike a decent amount of Yankee fans I actually take thought into the process and go into contracts, value, roster status, how well the players would fit into the roster, and other aspects of the transaction process that people like Brian Cashman have to think about, but those of us who generally live in a roto baseball world don’t.  I’ll cut this off here and thow up the “click here to read more” thing in order not to make the page incredibly long and hide other posts. DeRosa starts the ball rolling

Tom | | Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

According to Buster Olney, Mark DeRosa becomes the first free agent this offseason to jump ship, signing a three year deal with the Chicago Cubs worth approximately $13 million. DeRosa played the last two seasons for Texas after parts of seven with the Atlanta Braves. DeRosa just finished his 6th year of service time and was eligible for “true” free agency for the first time, although he was free to sign with whomever he chose after being non-tendered by the Braves after the 2004 season. DeRosa signed a minor league contract with the Rangers and was invited to camp in 2005, made the 25 man roster, then re-signed with Texas with a one year deal ($675k) this past offseason, avoiding arbitration. Dolphins 13, Chiefs 10

Tom | | Monday, November 13th, 2006

Eh, I just feel the need to speak about my beloved Dolphins this week.  Got to catch maybe half of the game off and on through the day (mostly first half, then portions of the 4th quarter) thanks to Cole being “needy” (ie. insisting that I watch him play with toys - not necessarily needing someone to play with).  Since he was content without a television on but requested some of his programming once I did try to put it on, I was sans TV when we were up in his room or in the spare room playing trains.  Attempting to put the TV loud in our bedroom and listening to the game echo through the hall was thwarted by Cole enjoying playing cars on his car bed - and Hot Wheels on hollow plastic just doesn’t allow for overhearing of televisions down the hall. NaNoWriMo

Tom | | Friday, November 10th, 2006

Yeah, I forgot.

Even my wife, who only found out about NaNoWriMo recently (like last month or so) and encouraged me to do it kind of let it slip by.  If not for some snarky comment by a friend on a message board about someone else, I would have completely forgotten about it.

I’ve got three placeholders for blog entries staring at me, and I don’t want to touch any of them without putting together something for NaNoWriMo.  I’m already behind - and in something that most of the people who participate end up falling somewhat short on, I’m starting with 2/3 of the time that they had.

Wish me luck.  I’ll try to keep writing here too, but you know my history.
